The team at Wandsworth Physiotherapy are here to help you achieve your holistic health goals.
As the first two months of the year draw to a close, how are your health goals going?
Here at Wandsworth Physiotherapy we offer a range of services, including nutrition, deep tissue massage and 1:1 yoga.
This month we throw a spotlight on our Clinical Director, Steve Hines and his client and now Senior Massage Therapist, Shruti Srivastava.
Shruti first came to Steve in January 2012 after a ski accident in Austria left her with a torn meniscus and ruptured ACL.
Physiotherapy post ACL reconstruction
Two operations later and 4 months of physio, Shruti was back on two feet…until disaster struck and she fell and broke three bones in the same leg.
She was left in a plaster cast for three further months and when it was finally removed, had to learn to walk again, with the help of Steve.
“We would spend our 30-minute session with Steve gently applying pressure to my leg to help get the range of movement back. It used to be agony!” recalls Shruti.
Steve provided Shruti with a comprehensive treatment plan, which initially included regular daily physio exercises and later involved using weights, the treadmill, cycling and swimming to help her get back up and running.
“I can still remember that the only thing I remember wanting to be able to do as I came down the ski slopes in a body bag was yoga.”
Yoga sessions in Wandsworth
In January 2013, Shruti was able to return to her yoga studio and start practising again. Whilst she may not have full range of motion in her injured leg, in 2020, she went to India to qualify as a yoga teacher and in 2021 as a massage therapist. Shruti now uses her experience of injury, rehabilitation, yoga and massage to help others.
As a result of her injury and lifestyle working in the city prior to retraining, Shruti experienced considerable weight gain and as a qualified Nutritional Therapist, worked with Steve on a 3-month nutrition programme to educate herself on healthy eating and implement some changes incrementally. Their bi-monthly sessions included using callipers to take skin fold measurements, discussing weekly goals and assessing fat percentage, micros and macros and other factors such as stress, emotional responses and fitness levels.
“Shruti and I worked slowly and incrementally making manageable changes to her nutrition and lifestyle at each meeting, such as making sure she was getting enough protein into her diet at one session, to improving hydration at another session. Over the course of 3 months these little changes become habits and amounted to incredible results” says Steve.
All in all, Shruti has lost 13kg altogether and continues to follow the advice Steve has given her. This month her article was featured in The Telegraph about how she has completely transformed her life and how quitting alcohol and sugar has changed her body shape and mood. If you’re interested in kickstarting some healthy eating habits and would like a structured programme, where you feel accountable to make some changes, feel free to arrange an initial Nutrition consultation with Steve.
Shruti is offering her 1:1 Yoga and Massage package (£99, usually £110) at Wandsworth Physiotherapy every Sunday.
