Does this describe you?
At Wandsworth Physiotherapy and Osteopathy our expert osteopath in Wandsworth will assess your posture and spine and put together a bespoke hands on treatment plan to get you quickly out of pain.
Your initial appointment with the osteopath will normally be 30 minutes (you can select an hour if you wish). In that time you will be asked to explain your injury, how it happened, how long you have had it and how it makes you feel. You will be asked to set some goals about what you want to achieve from your time spent with them.
Your osteopath will also run through your past medical history finding out about any medical diagnoses or medicine that you take. If you are visiting for childrenâs osteopathy you can explain the problems your child is suffering from.
Next your osteopath will carry out a physical examination looking at the affected area plus carry out an assessment of your posture and how you move.
Once they have carried out this assessment they will put together a treatment plan for you. Osteopaths tend to look at the body from a structural point of view, assessing your body alignment and how your spine moves and where there might be restrictions that need to be treated.
In the remaining time of your initial assessment and on subsequent treatment sessions your osteopath will carry out this treatment plan and also give you home exercises to do to either resolve your problem or to give you a management strategy to keep your symptoms under control.
Your osteopath will endeavor to give you an accurate diagnosis and give you realistic expectations of how many treatments you will require. You will leave with a written diagnosing and treatment plan.
Most problems can be resolved within 4 to 6 treatment sessions. On occasion your therapist may refer you to a consultant for a second opinion to verify the initial diagnosis and treatment plan.
Your osteopath may also refer you to other healthcare professionals at Wandsworth Physiotherapy that they feel would be appropriate to help you.
This may include a physiotherapist or Pilates instructor, massage therapist, acupuncturist, nutritionist, womenâs health specialist, yoga instructor or personal trainer.
Osteopathy is a complementary health care system that aims to assess your musculoskeletal system (muscles, ligaments, tendons and joints) to establish the root cause of your pain and dysfunction. We do not just treat your symptoms, but instead aim to restore balance to your system, improving the function of your body.
Osteopathy is based on the principle that the body has an innate, self-regulatory system that is able to repair itself and is nicely summed up by the following quote.
âOsteopathy is a philosophy of healthcare that acknowledges that the living body is a self-renewing, self-regenerating, self-recuperating system which maintains health constantly throughout life. Whenever that health-maintaining system is compromised, symptoms or disease could develop. Osteopathy is concerned with that which has compromised health rather than the resulting condition.â Osteopathic Alliance.
Osteopathic diagnosis includes listening to your story, your concerns and your goals and combining those with a thorough physical examination of your posture and movement, testing the range of movement and strength in your muscles, joints and ligaments and where available comparing these findings to any x-rays, scans and other clinical investigations. On the back of this information your osteopath can design your treatment plan and start moving your body back to a healthy state.
Your osteopath will use a wide range of gentle, non-invasive hands on techniques such as massage, joint manipulation, stretching and acupuncture to stimulate your body’s natural healing process. They will also design you an individually tailored exercise programme that should be carried out at home and also provide advice on posture, movement and work duties so that you can maximise your health.
It is a common and mis-held belief that osteopaths just treat back pain. However, contrary to popular belief osteopaths treat a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions. Although back pain is a large percentage of what we see on a daily basis (due to the prevalence of back pain in our society), our osteopath in Wandsworth also treats various acute problems such as muscle strains, joint sprains and muscle spasms and more long standing chronic problems and degenerative diseases such as chronic lower back pain and arthritis. Regular osteopathic treatment is also a very useful way to maintain and improve general health and prevent little niggles from developing into a full blown injury.
We get asked whatâs the difference between Physiotherapy and Osteopathy all the time and we understand it does get a little bit confusing for patients in terms of what we do. Essentially, both physiotherapists and osteopaths are trained to be able to assess and treat problems with the muscles, joints, ligaments and tendons.
Both physiotherapists and osteopaths will use hands on treatment techniques to get your symptoms better â they may differ slightly but are essentially joint mobilisation and massage techniques.
Both professions may use acupuncture, taping or ultrasound. Beyond these core skills osteopaths might specialise more in joint or visceral manipulation, whereas physiotherapists will specialise more in exercise rehabilitation. Physiotherapists are regulated by the HCPC and Osteopaths by The General Osteopathic Council.

Monica KarpinskiTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Before coming to Kirsty, I was struggling with knee pain that wasnât getting better. I had been to two physios before, it just wasnât going away. Kirsty really listened to me and figured out the root cause â and then after a few months the pain *finally* started to go away. She was super attentive and clear about what was happening. And now Iâm finally back to running pain free! Highly recommend this physio. Nick KempTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Top Class. Kirsty and the team at Wandsworth Physiotherapy are amazing. Top class treatment and really good at supporting with any queries you have. They always managed to find me an appointment even when I need a last minute appointment. They have been very supportive and helped me achieve all my fitness goals in the last 12/18 months Taslim TharaniTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I started seeing Kirsty in October to support my recovery from post-concussion syndrome and mild whiplash, which for me has included significant tightness in my jaw, neck, shoulders and back, alongside visual and vestibular challenges, as well as autonomic nervous system regulation issues. It had been difficult to find someone with the level of expertise needed to work with the complexity of what I was experiencing, and Kirstyâs knowledge and understanding have been exceptional from the start. Our first session was a thorough assessment. Kirsty took the time to really understand the full picture including reading a detailed report from a concussion clinic I had attended the previous year. She carried out a number of assessments to really understand the full impact and complexity of my injuries. Her approach is deeply holistic, and that has been consistent throughout. What has stood out most is how carefully she has paced both treatment and recovery. She has supported me to stabilise my nervous system first, taking things slowly and thoughtfully. As my capacity has grown, weâve gradually introduced treatments like dry needling always with sensitivity to how my system responds. Kirsty has also gone above and beyond in supporting my wider recovery. She helped me build a multidisciplinary team, referring me to both a psychotherapist and an occupational therapist both of whom have been excellent. She has also worked collaboratively to integrate and adapt exercises from a brain injury rehab clinic I attended, tailoring everything to what feels manageable and safe for me. Her approach gently expands my capacity without overwhelming me. She consistently reflects back my progress, which has been an important part of rebuilding my confidence. Since starting with Kirsty, Iâve gone from struggling to leave my flat to being able to get out more, and we are seeing real, meaningful progress. The hands-on physiotherapy has made a real difference - releasing long-held tension in my jaw, neck, shoulders and back, improving my range of movement, and helping me gradually rebuild strength in my neck in a way that feels safe and sustainable. I have seen a reduction in the post concussion symptoms too. Perhaps most importantly, Kirsty creates a space where I feel completely safe and supported. I trust her fully, not only in her clinical expertise, but in how she holds the complexity of my recovery. She understands what Iâm experiencing without needing it to be explained, and she adapts everything with care and precision. I honestly donât think I would have had the confidence to take the steps needed for my recovery without her support. She is, quite simply, one of the best clinicians Iâve worked with and I highly recommend her as a physio. In addition, the whole team, including reception are kind, helpful, approachable. It's an excellent practice which I highly recomment. hycyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Shreya is a seasoned physiotherapist. My mother recovered swiftly with her assistance . Dylan DayTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I tried a few other physios that did not help with an injury I was carrying. However, Aadesh and Wandsworth Physiotherapy and Osteopathy were excellent, and quickly diagnosed and started treatment. The service and treatment were excellent, and my wife and I both only go to Aadesh now. Would definitely and highly recommend! Guilherme CenziTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Very professional clinic with good services and physiotherapists. I've been there three times and was treated by Shreya, Nuzhat, and Jack (the podiatrist). I was happy with the initial diagnosis, treatment, and also the follow-on check-ins to ensure I was pain-free. I definitely recommend it and will return when needed.
