Shockwave Therapy at Wandsworth Physiotherapy & Osteopathy

At Wandsworth Physiotherapy & Osteopathy we provide state-of-the-art shockwave therapy to treat stubborn tendon, muscle, and soft tissue problems. Shockwave therapy (ESWT) uses acoustic waves to stimulate healing, reduce pain, and improve mobility when exercise and manual therapy alone may not be enough.

We are proud to now offer both radial and focused shockwave therapy – allowing us to choose the most effective treatment for your condition.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

Most patients require 3–6 sessions of radial or focused shockwave therapy spaced about a week apart. Focused shockwave may require fewer sessions due to its precision and energy delivery. Your physiotherapist will discuss the right number of sessions for your condition during your assessment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Radial spreads energy over a wider area and is best for superficial problems. Focused concentrates energy at a specific depth, making it ideal for deep or resistant injuries.
Your physiotherapist will assess your injury and recommend the most appropriate option. Sometimes we use both in combination.
It can feel more intense because it targets a smaller, deeper area – but treatment intensity is adjusted to keep you comfortable, and is usually more tolerable than radial shockwave.
Both are safe when delivered by trained professionals. You may notice temporary redness, swelling, or soreness. Shockwave is not suitable if you are pregnant, have a pacemaker near the treatment area, cancer in the region, or certain blood disorders.
Some patients notice improvement after the first session, but the biggest gains usually occur after 3–6 treatments as the tissue remodels.
Focused shockwave involves more advanced technology, so session costs may differ. We will explain all pricing options up front.
By offering both radial and focused shockwave therapy, we can provide the most effective treatment plan for your condition, helping you recover faster and return to the activities you love.
