Cranial Osteopathy
Our osteopaths specialises in cranial osteopathy for treating adults, children and new born babies.
Cranial osteopathy is a gentle hands on technique that follows all the principles of osteopathy – working on the body as a whole, treating the person not the diagnosis and encouraging the bodies innate ability to heal itself.
A cranial osteopath will treat the whole body not just the head. The term cranial simply implies that treatment techniques are also used for the skin, fascia, bones and joints in the face and head as well as the body.
Cranial osteopaths do additional training to develop a sense of touch to feel subtle changes in tension and tissue quality in order to diagnose areas of strain or dysfunction in your body.
Cranial Osteopathy is a gentle, safe and effective approach to treating a wide range of problems you may have.
Cranial osteopathy is useful for:
- Neck pain
- Tension headaches
- Migraines
- Head injury
- Stress
- Back pain
- Sciatica
- IBS
- Hip and knee pain

How does it feel?
Cranial osteopathy is very gentle and relaxing treatment using gentle pressure and tension to bring about changes in your body. You may feel a light aching sensation and warm where the osteopath is working, but also a deep sense of relaxation.
What to expect…
Your first session of cranial osteopathy may feel quite strange, in fact it may feel like they are not doing much at all. However, they are using their sense of touch to delve into your anatomy and physiology, listening carefully to your body, sensing where both physical and emotional trauma have cause you problems. During a treatment your cranial osteopath is guided to these area of pain and dysfunction and will use their treatment techniques to restore balance in your system and release these areas of tension.
Who does it help?
Cranial osteopathy is widely known for the treatment of children and babies. It is equally effective for adults and the elderly suffering from both acute and chronic conditions.
Is it safe and does it have any scientific basis?
Cranial osteopathy is a very gentle and safe treatment, there are no joint manipulations or other vigorous massage techniques involved.
Although it is difficult to ‘prove’ cranial osteopathy works from a scientific research point of view, we do know that many people enjoy this treatment and feel better for having it.
